Just 42% reported a great deal or a fair amount of “confidence in the federal government’s ability to handle domestic problems.” The previous low was 43% two years ago.
For international problems, there was also a new low, though not quite as bad as for domestic problems: 49%.
As much as I think Obama’s policies deserve the blame, the fact is that distrust and lack of confidence has been growing steadily for about a dozen years. Overall this is probably a good thing. People should not put too much trust in the federal government. We should be moving power and responsibility away from the fderal government and back to state and local governments where there is far more visibility and accountability.
